Mathematics

Our mission is to empower all learners with the mathematical knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving global society.  We are committed to fostering a culture of curiosity, resilience, and innovation, where students are encouraged to explore the beauty and utility of mathematics in real-world contexts.  Through inclusive, forward-thinking, and adaptive teaching practices with a focus on interdisciplinary connections, we prepare our students to adapt, lead, and make informed decisions in an increasingly data-driven and interconnected world.

Building deep mathematical knowledge

We commit to building our students’ mathematical fluency. Students will develop a secure understanding of number, algebra, geometry, and data, and how these areas interconnect.

Students will explore a wide range of mathematical ideas, including abstract and applied mathematics, and will be challenged to think critically and creatively.

This strong foundation enables students to move confidently into more complex areas of mathematics, using concrete examples to support abstract reasoning.

Developing resilience, innovation, problem-solving and reasoning skills

We are committed to teaching our students what it means to think like a mathematician. We will explicitly teach problem-solving strategies, logical reasoning, and mathematical communication.

Students will develop their ability to analyse problems, identify patterns, and construct coherent arguments using mathematical language.

Mathematics is about making sense of the world. Through consistent practice and exposure to real-life contexts, students will learn to evaluate solutions and justify their thinking.

Understanding the role of mathematics in an increasingly data-driven and interconnected world

The Mathematics department is committed to building students’ confidence and curiosity through meaningful mathematical experiences.

By connecting mathematics to everyday life, careers, and global issues, students will understand the relevance and power of mathematics in shaping the world.

Through learning diverse mathematical applications, students will gain the tools to become informed, analytical, and empowered citizens.
