Media
Vision
Media Studies provides a practical, theoretical, and creative foundation that equips students for future opportunities in the media industry. Our curriculum fosters a broad understanding across a range of media, while developing the hands-on skills and critical insight needed to produce and evaluate work in real-world contexts.
Overview
Practical
Media Studies equips students with the practical skills needed to create and evaluate their own work. From planning projects to producing finished media products, students gain first-hand experience of the processes that underpin the industry. This focus on applied learning helps them develop confidence in using tools and techniques that mirror real-world practice.
Theoretical
Alongside practical skills, students develop a strong understanding of the theoretical principles that underpin media. They explore form and purpose, considering why texts are created and how they function, before examining genre and media language to see how meaning is constructed. Students also investigate representation and audience, enabling them to question how people, places, and ideas are portrayed, and how different groups respond. This knowledge allows learners to analyse media texts with depth and insight, while making informed creative choices in their own production work.
Creative
Students are encouraged to express original ideas through creative media production, with a strong emphasis on print media. Using PowerPoint for planning and Photoshop for designing, they produce magazines, posters, and other visual texts. This blend of structured planning and imaginative design develops both technical precision and artistic expression, preparing learners within a professional framework.
